The sample falls from a height of 500mm on to a steel plate that is 3mm thick and backed by 19mm thick hardwood. The number of falls is set by the user in accordance to the standard they are meeting. After the tumble barrel procedure, the specimen is checked visually, mechanically, and electrically as prescribed in the relevant specification.
